Thread-stitched sections withstand decades of opening and closing without the spine cracking. The binding outlives the binding glue used in standard hardbacks.
Sewn sections lay open beautifully — no fighting the book to keep a page held down. Photo spreads finally look the way they were designed to.
When pupils show their book to their own children, the binding still works. Worth the upgrade for a once-in-a-lifetime book.
Whether it's a sixth-form leavers' book or a school anniversary edition, the format communicates that this is meant to last. Easier conversation to have with governors.
Standard hardbacks are produced by gluing the page block to the cover. It works, but the glue eventually fails — particularly if a book is opened roughly or stored unevenly. Thread-sewn binding does things differently.
The book is divided into sections (called “signatures”) of typically 16 or 32 pages. Each signature is folded, then the signatures are stacked and physically stitched through the fold with thread. The bound page block is then attached to the casebound cover.
The result: a stronger, more durable book that opens flat at any page and feels closer to a published novel than a school yearbook. Worth the upgrade for any project where the book is meant to be a real keepsake.
Standard cover finishes. Matt feels softer and less reflective; gloss is sharper and more saturated.
Gold, silver or rose-gold foil pressed into the cover. Particularly nice for the title and crest.
The inside-cover pages can carry a printed pattern — a school crest, a tutor-group photo collage, a year-group list.
Premium silk or uncoated stock for the interior pages — thicker, more substantial in the hand.
A bound-in ribbon for marking favourite pages. Subtle premium detail.
An additional printed wrap around the casebound cover. Doubles the cover real estate for design.
It gives parents a product that feels worth paying for. The difference between a £20 paperback and a £40 thread-sewn hardback isn’t doubled cost — it’s a different category of keepsake.
Thread-sewn hardback projects are quoted individually because page count, quantity and finishing options vary widely. Get in touch with your numbers and we’ll work out exactly what you’d pay.
Real paperback and hardback samples, printed and bound in-house, sent to your school with no commitment. Often the easiest way to make the case for a hardback upgrade to your governors.
